Databases
A-Z List of CTU Databases A comprehensive list of our subscription databases as well as selected reference books, web sites, and free databases recommended for academic use.
To search the databases simultaneously, use EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS).
The database list can be filtered by subject. Some subjects include:
Search the Catalog (PrimoVE) and EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) when looking for ebooks
Search both PrimoVE and EDS for e-books. Some books are in both, but many are not! Perform your search first, then use the left column to filter your results.
You can also search directly from the sites of our e-book providers. Some of our larger collections are:
Ebook Central (by Proquest)
Project Muse (humanities titles, provided by Johns Hopkins University)
JSTOR More than 50,000 titles from academic publishers (use Advanced Serach to limit your results to e-books)
Digitalia Hispanica for e-books in Spanish
The Library of Catholic Thought and the T&T Clark Jesus Library (Bloomsbury Publishing). Your CTU library credentials will work using directions on the site for institutional login with Shibboleth.

PrimoVE for CTU materials
PrimoVE does contain some (but not all) electronic materials as well. When searching for electronic periodicals and e-books, search EBSCO Discovery Service for materials you don’t find in PrimoVE.
PrimoVE for I-Share Materials
Primo VE is also the catalog of more than 80 other academic libraries in Illinois which will send books to CTU for you at no cost (and more quickly than for loan requests made to libraries outside the system). Select All I-Share Libraries when you perform your search to see your borrowing options for these other libraries.
WorldCat
WorldCat contains the holdings of over 70,000 libraries, including libraries across Illinois. If you do not live in Illinois, you can use Worldcat.org to see which libraries closest to you have the item you are looking for.
WorldCat is also useful for searching the catalogs of nearby libraries where you may have borrowing privileges but which don’t participate in the I-Share consortium (for example, Loyola University, Chicago Theological Seminary, and the University of Chicago Libraries). You can borrow from those institutions by going there yourself with your CTU identification card. See the “Finding Books” tab of this guide for more details.
Finally, the Bechtold Library can request books and articles you find in WorldCat through the Interlibrary Loan program. Use the interlibrary loan form to request books from WorldCat. For interlibrary loan information or assistance, contact Aileen Mulchrone.
New Theology Review
New Theology Review was published in print from 1988 to 2011. Those volumes are available in the Library. Volumes from 2012-2018 were published electronically and are available upon request. Please e-mail your request (with full citation when possible) to Deb Winarski.
Additionally, the Atla Religion Datbase with AtlaSerials PLUS includes full text coverage of issues from 1997 to 2018 (login required. Browse issues here).
CTU Archives
The CTU Archives contain administrative records, institutional publications, personal papers of select faculty members, and materials from other persons and organizations closely connected to CTU.
The Archives are open by appointment. Contact Derek Rieckens, Systems and Archives Librarian, to make an appointment to use the Archives or for specific information.
Explore the archives’ holdings with these tools:
ArchivesSpace – Search finding aids with detailed inventories, browse collections by record group or creator, and request specific boxes you would like to consult during your visit. Not all our finding aids are online yet, but we’re continually adding more.
Library catalog – Basic descriptions of select archival collections can be found in the library catalog.
Internet Archive – view more than 250 rare books owned by CTU and digitized through the CARLI consortium.
