Position Overview

Saint Viator High School, a Catholic, college-preparatory school in Arlington Heights, IL, seeks a dynamic and faith-filled Theology Teacher to join our faculty. The ideal candidate will be passionate about Catholic education, committed to the intellectual and spiritual formation of students, and skilled in fostering a classroom environment rooted in the Viatorian mission and the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Responsibilities

Teach multiple sections of Theology courses, spanning various grade levels, in alignment with the school's curriculum and Catholic doctrine.
Serve on a course-level planning team to deliver engaging, student-centered lessons that integrate Scripture, Tradition, Catholic Social Teaching, and moral theology.
Foster an environment of inquiry, reflection, and respectful dialogue that encourages students to deepen their faith and develop critical thinking skills.
Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments and provide timely, constructive feedback.
Support and contribute to the school's Catholic identity and mission through active participation in liturgies, retreats, and service-learning opportunities.
Collaborate with fellow Theology teachers and campus ministry to enhance faith formation within the school community.
Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues regarding academic progress and pastoral needs.
Engage in professional development opportunities to stay current with theological scholarship, pedagogy, and best practices in Catholic education.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, or a related field.
Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, committed to the school’s Viatorian mission.
Teaching experience at the high school level preferred.
Strong understanding of Catholic doctrine, Scripture, moral theology, and social justice.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to integrate technology and innovative teaching methods in the classroom.
Commitment to fostering a faith-filled and inclusive school environment.
Virtus-trained according to the standards set by the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Catholic education, ministry, or parish catechesis.
Familiarity with conciliar documents such as Nostra Aetate and The Decree on Ecumenism.
Background in Catholic Social Teaching and its application to contemporary social justice issues; familiarity with key documents such as Rerum Novarum, Evangelium Vitae, and Laudato 'Si
Master’s degree in Theology, Divinity, Religious Education, or a related field.
