Qualifications:
Fully initiated practicing Roman Catholic
Passion for the faith and ministering to children and families
Experience in parish children and/or youth ministry
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to pray with children, teens, parents, and volunteers
Professional attitude and ability to work with a team
Excited about children’s ministry
Filled with creative ways in getting students and families passionate about the faith
Proficient with office computer programs
BA in Theology/Religious Education, related education field, or certificate in pastoral ministry
Previous ministry experience or related fields with a heart for children's ministry
All items listed below are performed under the guidance of the Pastor and the Director of Faith Formation
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises assigned grade levels in the religious education program
Supervises or assists with appropriate in-service training and formation of catechists
Assists in the recruitment of catechists, hospitality, and room parent volunteers.
Assists in all large group parent sacramental meetings
Track Confirmation & First Eucharist requirements for religious education and school
Leads first Eucharist class for older students
Leads RCIA for children throughout the year
Assists in the planning and implementation of Confirmation retreats
Assists in Summer programing (ex. Totus Tuus and Catholic Heart Work Camp)
Lead and implements youth ministry Masses, activities, meetings, and service projects
Spirituality, Prayer Leadership, and Events
Assist in sacramental celebrations for students and families (ex. 1st communion, confirmation)
Prepares advent and lent services and celebrations for religious education students and families (ex. Christmas Pageant, Prayer services, Lenten confessions)
Develops a prayer focused environment for the youth ministry
Catechist Support
Leads bi-monthly catechist meetings
Suggests resource materials
Encourage spiritual growth
Print, organize, and gather supplies for catechists
Assists and/or leads Catechist retreat
Coordination and Administration
Prepares or assists with a yearly calendar for the program
Collaborates with the Director of Faith Formation when making curriculum decisions
Update, create, or find curriculum for specific lessons
Assists in ordering textbooks, teaching materials and resources for the program
Organizes and enters registration information into computer database
Organizes classroom and sacrament materials
Monitor attendance and reach out to families about lacking attendance
These lists are not exhaustive as new responsibilities arise with the flexibility of parish ministry
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Lift and move items up to 20 pounds.
Working Environment: Frequent evening and weekend work
