CTU Statement Against Family Separation at the US-Mexican Border

To the CTU Community,

Catholic Theological Union, in solidarity with the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, condemns the policy of the current United States administration to separate children from their parents seeking admission into the United States on our southern border.

This cruel and immoral practice was defended by the Attorney General by selectively citing the Christian Scriptures. His misapplication of Paul’s letter to the Romans (Romans 13) calling on Christians to obey the law ignores the final and interpretive key of the law in this chapter. “You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no evil to the neighbor, hence love is the fulfillment of the law.”

We call upon the administration to rescind this reprehensible policy that offends against basic human decency.
