SUMMARY:Fifth Annual Paul Wattson Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Probing our Ecumenical Journey with a Pan African\, Women of Faith\, Multigenerational Lens\n  \nThe lecture will honour and probe the ancient and modern leadership of Pan African Women of Faith in the Christian movement of unity\, justice\, and mission in a forthcoming book by the lecturer. The lecture will focus on a multi-generational framework that rewrites the ecumenical narrative with the contributions of these hidden sheroes of the Christian faith from a Pan African lens. Such a presentation and discussion are timely for this season of a changing and changed landscape of Christianity’s rise and growth in Africa\, the Caribbean\, Latin America\, and their diaspora communities in the global South and North. \n  \nRev. Dr. Angelique Walker-Smith will present the annual Paul Wattson Lecture\, sponsored by the Friars of the Atonement. \n\n  \nAbout The Paul Wattson Lecture Series \nThis yearly lecture\, sponsored by the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement and Catholic Theological Union\, honors the founder of the Friars\, Fr. Paul Wattson\, and focuses on ecumenical and interreligious dialogue and understanding as an important part of the mission to which Fr. Paul devoted his life. \n\n  \nLocation \n\n\n\n\nCatholic Theological Union \n5416 South Cornell Avenue \nChicago\, Illinois 60615 \n\n\n\n\n  \n \nClick here to learn more about the Friars of the Atonement \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Louis J. Luzbetak\, SVD Lecture 2023
DESCRIPTION:Where is the Center of World Christianity Today? The Five Frontiers of Mission and Theology\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nThis lecture contests some of the settled claims about the shifting center of Christianity from the West to the Global South\, particularly that Africa is the new center of Christianity. The lecturer engages some of the new methodologies for studying the shifting momentum of Christian expansion. The lecture then will identify the five new frontiers of mission and theology today—politics\, peripheries\, ecology\, wealth\, and hope. The question of hope for the victims of history becomes a necessary theological and missional task for theology and the Christian movement in answering the perennial question: Where is God in all of this? Answering this in the face of these new frontiers will be presented as the center around which mission should revolve. \n  \nOnline & In-Person \n\n\n\n\nCatholic Theological Union\, Room 210 \n5416 South Cornell Avenue\, Chicago\, Illinois 60615 \n\n\n\n\n  \nAbout the Louis J. Luzbetak Lecture \nThe Louis J. Luzbetak\, SVD\, Chair of Mission and Culture was endowed by the Chicago Province of the Society of the Divine Word in order to highlight the important link between mission\, Christianity\, and culture\, which has been a key element of its charism since the late nineteenth century. The chair and annual lectureship appropriately bears the name of Fr. Louis Luzbetak\, SVD (1918-2005)\, cultural anthropologist and ecumenically-recognized pioneer in the field of missionary anthropology. \n  \nCo-sponsored by the CTU Committee of World Mission
