This degree equips students for competent pastoral leadership in accompanying the variety of communities that fall under the broad demographic categories of Latinx/Latin@/Hispanic in the context of the United States of America. The course of study focuses on Hispanic religious heritage, Latino@ biblical hermeneutics, Latin@ theologies, ministry within Latin@ contexts, and the lived experiences and practices of Hispanic communities.

 

Program Structure:

  • 9 credit hours required introductory courses
  • 13.5 credit hours Latin@ themed courses in various academic disciplines
  • 9 credit hours of electives with Latin@ thread
  • 3 credit hours Ministry Practicum
  • 1.5 credit Portfolio Course

Credit Hours: 36

 

This degree provides ministers with expertise in dealing with theological and pastoral issues related to reconciliation and peace-making processes within the Church and the world. It is possible to concentrate studies in one of the following areas: environmental justice, racial justice, reconciliation, or social justice.

 

Program Structure:

  • 18 credit hours required introductory courses
  • 6 credit hours advanced level courses
  • 6 credit hours general electives
  • 6 credit hours Ministry Practicum (includes summative final paper/project)

This degree focuses on helping the student acquire the knowledge and skills to exercise liturgical leadership in a parish setting.

 

Program Structure:

  • 15 credit hours required introductory courses
  • 7.5 credit hours required advanced level courses
  • 9 credit hours general electives
  • 3 credit hours Ministry Practicum
  • 1.5 credit Final Project

Credit Hours: 48

 

The Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies (MAPS) degree is intended for those who wish to prepare for ministerial leadership in the Church, those with some ministerial experience, and those who want to improve effectiveness in their current ministries. 

 

Program Structure:

  • 24 credit hours required introductory courses
  • 3 credit hours advanced level course
  • 16.5 credit hours general electives
  • 3 credit hours Ministry Practicum
  • 1.5 credit Portfolio Course

Credit Hours: 36

 

This degree is focused on giving the student the knowledge and skills needed to conduct biblical ministry in a variety of settings, usually on the parish level.

 

Educational Outcomes:

  • Attainment of an adequate grasp of biblical content
  • Development of skills in engaging effectively the biblical tradition in such settings as Bible study
  • Attainment of the theological knowledge that will enhance biblical understanding and interpretive skills
