The Catholic Theological Union Presidential Search Committee includes members of the CTU faculty, Board of Trustees, and staff.
The Search Committee will accept candidate submissions until February 15, 2013.

Scott C. Alexander
Scott C. Alexander (Faculty) is currently Associate Professor of Islamic Studies and Director of Catholic-Muslim Studies at Catholic Theological Union. He is a regular consultant on Catholic-Muslim relations for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and on interreligious curriculum development for the Association of Theological Schools (ATS). Scott sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Islamic Law and Culture, lectures widely in the United States and Muslim-majority countries, and is lead editor of the anticipated Dictionary of Christian-Muslim Relations (Cambridge University Press).
Rev. Miguel Alvarez, C.S.
Rev. Miguel Alvarez, C.S. (Board of Trustees) is a member of the Missionaries of St. Charles (Scalabrinians). A CTU graduate (1996), Fr. Alvarez holds a Masters in Theology from Universidad Intercontinental in Mexico City (2006). He has been a long-time formation director in the Scalabrinian Congregation, and has wide teaching experience in several academic institutions in Mexico. Currently he serves as the Pastor at the Parish-Shrine of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Melrose Park.
Ann Kenny Carr
Ann Kenny Carr (Board of Trustees) is a former teacher and tax preparer, now retired. She is currently a member on the Auxiliary Board of Misericordia Heart of Mercy and volunteers for the Chicago Foundation for Education. She earned her BA from Marquette University.
Sr. Mary Frohlich, R.S.C.J.
Mary Frohlich, R.S.C.J. (Faculty) has taught at CTU since 1993. She has a Ph.D. from the Catholic University of America and is a noted author on Carmelite spirituality as well as other topics. She is currently Associate Professor of Spirituality, Chair of the Department of Spirituality and Pastoral Ministry, and Acting Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program.
Rev. Kurt Hartrich, O.F.M.
Rev. Kurt Hartrich, O.F.M. (Board of Trustees) currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Trustees and is ex-officio Chair of the Presidential Search Committee. He holds an undergraduate degree from Quincy University, an S.T.B. from the Antonianum in Rome, and an M.A. in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Notre Dame. After serving in various ministries of the Sacred Heart Province of Franciscans in education, formation, administration and parishes, he now is Pastor of St. Peter's Church in Chicago's Loop.
J. Michael Heaton
J. Michael Heaton (Board of Trustees) is a member of the law firm of O’Keefe Lyons & Hynes, LLC, where he specializes in property taxation and incentives. Mr. Heaton is a member of the Board of Advisors of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, General Counsel to the Notre Dame National Monogram Club, and a member of the Board of Directors of Christ the King Jesuit College Prep. He is a graduate of Notre Dame University and earned his Juris Doctorate from Notre Dame Law School.
Ryan J. Hoffmann
Ryan J. Hoffmann (Staff) serves as the Senior Director of Enrollment Management at CTU. He oversees the Marketing and Communications, Recruitment, and Admissions offices. Ryan is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa (B.A.), received a M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration at Iowa State University, and possesses a M.A. in Spirituality from Loyola University Chicago. Prior to coming to CTU, Ryan worked in student affairs and enrollment operations at Loyola University Chicago.
Sheila McLaughlin (Staff), a graduate of Catholic Theological Union’s Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies program, has served as the Director of the Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Center since 2001. The Bernardin Center’s mission is to continue the extraordinary legacy and vision of the late Cardinal through programs centered on reconciliation and peacemaking, Church leadership, ethics and interreligious dialogue. Previous to this position, Sheila was the Director of the Office for Divine Worship for the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Michael E. Murphy
Michael E. Murphy (Board of Trustees) is the former Vice Chairman of Sara Lee Corporation and served as a Director of Sara Lee from 1979 until his retirement in 1997. He is currently on the boards of Coach, Inc, The Joffrey Ballet, Big Shoulders Fund, and the Civic Federation. Murphy formerly served on several corporate and non-profit boards. He is a graduate of Boston College and earned an M.B.A. degree from Harvard Business School.
Daniel R. Murray
Daniel R. Murray (Board of Trustees) is a Senior Partner at the law firm of Jenner & Block and teaches as an adjunct professor in the Notre Dame Law School. He is a Life Trustee on the Board of Trustees of CTU and a member of the National Board of Advisors of the Bernardin Center, the Catholic Common Ground Initiative Advisory Committee, the Board of Directors of the Big Shoulders Fund, the Board of Governors of the Catholic Lawyers Guild, and the Visiting Committee of the University of Chicago Divinity School. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and earned a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School.
John D. Oliverio
John D. Oliverio (Board of Trustees) is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, a Catholic, not-for-profit organization with 1,794 hospital beds, 2,620 units of housing and nearly 18,000 associates and 610 physicians in Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado, and Illinois. He has served the organization for more than 28 years in various capacities, with the last 12 years as President/CEO. John holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Loyola University in Chicago, and a Master of Management from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Rev. John T. Pawlikowski, O.S.M.
Rev. John T. Pawlikowski, O.S.M., (Faculty) is a priest of the Servite Order and is Professor of Social Ethics and Director of the Catholic-Jewish Studies Program at CTU. A leading figure in the Christian-Jewish dialogue, he is the President and Chair of the Theology Committee of the International Council of Christians and Jews (ICCJ). He lectures widely in the social ethics and interreligious fields and has written/edited over 15 books and numerous journal articles. John received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
Sr. Barbara E. Reid, O.P.
Sr. Barbara E. Reid, O.P. (Faculty) is Vice President and Academic Dean and Professor of New Testament Studies at CTU. A Dominican Sister of Grand Rapids, Michigan, she holds a Masters from Aquinas College in Religious Studies and a Ph.D. from The Catholic University of America. Barbara has authored numerous books and articles in the area of Scripture/Bible, and lectures widely, both nationally and internationally. She has been on the faculty of CTU since 1988.
Rev. Roger Schroeder, S.V.D.
Rev. Roger Schroeder, S.V.D. (CTU Faculty) is Professor of Intercultural Studies and Ministry and holder of the Bishop Francis X. Ford, M.M., Chair of Catholic Missiology at Catholic Theological Union. He was ordained a priest with the Society of the Divine Word in 1979, and has taught at CTU since 1990. He earned a doctorate degree in Missiology (D.Miss.) from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and an M.Div. degree from CTU.
Anne Marie Tirpak
Anne Marie Tirpak (Staff) is the Director of Development at Catholic Theological Union. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from John Carroll University and a Masters in Education in Higher Education Administration from Loyola University Chicago. Prior to her appointment as Development Director nearly five years ago, she served as a Jesuit Volunteer in Woodburn, OR; the Development Director at St. Joseph Academy in Cleveland, OH; the Assistant Director of the Annual Fund at Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, CT; and the Vicariate Stewardship Coordinator for the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Rev. Edward R. Udovic, C.M.
Rev. Edward R. Udovic, C.M. (Board of Trustees) serves as the Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees. He presently serves as Senior Executive for University Mission, Secretary and Vice President for Teaching and Learning Resources at DePaul University. He is also co-chair of the CTU/DePaul Educational Alliance Committee.
Rev. Freddy Washington, C.S.Sp.
Rev. Freddy Washington, C.S.Sp. (Board of Trustees) is a member of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (Spiritans). He is also a Pastor, Formation Director, and a graduate of Catholic Theological Union. Fr. Washington is dedicated to the ministry of forming and training seminarians and other ministers for the Catholic Church.
