Continuing Education

Classes for non-degree students

Each semester, CTU offers an evening course that is open to the public for the opening lecture. CTU degree-seeking students join with those who seek spiritual and intellectual enrichment to learn from one of CTU's distinguished professors.

Continuing Education is offered at Catholic Theological Union to enhance an understanding of the Catholic faith, to further professional development or to prepare for transition to a new ministry. Catholic Theological Union’s Continuing Education program offers a flexible course of study. Without program requirements, Continuing Education students may choose to audit courses or to take them for credit. Upon admission, you may design an individualized sabbatical with the advisement of the Program Director, take part in formation opportunities throughout the year, choose to study in the Holy Land, audit courses and workshops in the Summer Institute and participate in the Hesburgh Sabbatical Program.

Evening and Weekend Courses

To better meet the intellectual and spiritual needs of busy people with demanding schedules, Catholic Theological Union offers graduate-level courses at our Hyde Park Campus on  Saturdays and during the evening. In addition, online courses are available whether for personal enrichment or professional development. See Course Offerings for a schedule of courses for each semester.
Management Skills for Ministry

Management Skills for Ministry seminars focus on six significant areas of pastoral administration that are necessary in running any organization. Offered throughout the year, these seminars are for those in ministry and are taught in an interactive style by experts and practitioners in each field. Presenters offer foundational priniciples and give practical information for the following:

  • Leadership Styles
  • Workplace Relationships
  • Personnel Issues
  • Financial and Facilities Management
  • Public Relations and Marketing
  • Stewardship and Fundraising

While the seminars are a requirement of the M.Div. degree program, they are open to anyone interested in taking them for graduate credit or as individual workshops for continuing education.
